Joseph Abelaye Jr., 75, of Keaau died March 27 at home. Born in Pahala, he was a retired training manager for Robert’s Hawaii Tours. No services planned. Survived by his wife, children, mother, sisters, brothers, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Frederico “Freddy” Alvarado, 72, of Mountain View died March 28 at home. Born in Honolulu, he was a powderman for Grace Pacific and Pacific Concrete and a U.S. Army veteran. No services planned. Augustine “Augie” Louis Apicerno, 80, of Volcano died March 28 at Hawaii Care Choices Pohai Malama Care Center in Hilo. Born in South Kingston, R.I., he was a retired salesperson with the former Hawaiian Telephone Co., U.S. Army veteran, worked for Bonded Materials after retirement, a member and former bishop of The Keaau Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a basketball coach for Campbell and Mililani high schools on Oahu. Funeral service at 10 a.m. Wednesday (April 11) at the Orchidland chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Burial to follow at Hawaii Veterans Cemetery No. 2 in Hilo. Casual attire. No flowers. Survived by wife, Evelyn “Evie” Apicerno of Volcano; daughter, Gina (Moises) Gonzalez of Las Vegas; sister, Marion Carlos of Florida; three grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Helen Theresa Cann, 96, of Hilo died March 28 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born on Maui, she was a homemaker, employee of the former Hawaiian Holiday Macadamia Nut Co. and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
